lingering glimpses of the little girl

Her first homecoming dance.  She is going with her girlfriends  (yay...she has friends! new girl no more!).  We shopped tirelessly (not really--we got pretty tired) over the course of several days for just the right dress and accessories  (read here:  modest and pretty and not bank-breaking!).  She knows what she likes and what she doesn't.  The days of mommy picking the special outfit are long gone.  She's so grown up.

My little girl.  The one who used to wear nothing but a tutu and a diaper as she twirled around performing little shows for daddy.

Sigh.

The big day arrives.  I unexpectedly found myself wielding curling irons and hairspray.  She wants her straight locks to be curly, and even big girls need help with the back.  As I spray and curl, I find myself glad she still needs a little help.  She's not too big for that.

Or for dancing with her daddy on the lawn.

In one moment, I glimpse the woman she is becoming and the little girl I knew first.
How I love all she is.

Celebrating with emily and others at chatting at the sky today.

  1. Oh, Dawn ... she is so lovely... I can relate to the bittersweet feelings of watching your girl grow up. The photos of her with her dad are just precious.

Thanks for your sweet comments on my blog about my recent accident. God does work all things together for good ...

  5. I really enjoyed reading about your daughter. I too have a daughter. It's her senior year of high school. And yes she is going to Homecoming in October. We bought the dress and the shoes on sale. She may wear a lovely, feather light but dripping with little glass baubles, 1940's necklace that belongs to her grandmother. I sigh, thinking already before the event, that this is her last high school homecoming dance. Oh the days of our babies just go by too fast. So moms out there in cyberspace...take lots of photos and savor the memories. It's been said: 'Time flies when you're having fun'. So true. God Bless.

  7. Holy moly. She's gorgeous. I mean, I knew that, but wow. What a beautiful girl, inside and out, and I love that she still danced with Daddy on the lawn.

  8. She is beautiful! Isn't it amazing how quickly we get to this point in life? Kat is a freshman this year and I, too, catch glimpses of the woman she is becoming. It usually invokes amazement and sadness all at once.

Hope she had lots and lots of fun at the dance. We have homecoming this weekend.

  12. I love this for so many reasons...

...that she knows what she likes and what she doesn't.

...that she's making friends at her new school.

...that she and her daddy are both smiling so big in these pictures.

...that you've reached this milestone with her (and are a few years ahead of me and will have wisdom to offer!)

...that she still needs her mama!

And really? Her hair is STRAIGHT?
