Coffee Girl Coffee 8/20

On Fridays I link up with a fun group of bloggers--the company girls--to chat and catch up on our weeks.

yummmmm.

Well, it's back to school week around here.  Pickle started with a Freshmen-only day on Tuesday, and then Bubba started on Wednesday.  It's gone well, although Pickle has had her moments of not liking being the "new girl".  It takes time to make real friends, yaknow?

I'm looking forward to settling into routine.  One of these days...

Work at church has been busy as we gear up for fall.  It's exciting, but last week I was feeling a little overwhelmed.  I processed about it here and seemed to hit a nerve with some of my readers.  Click on over if you want to hear my babble and join the discussion.  I'd love to hear if you get overwhelmed and what you do to cope.  My inlaws are visiting, and they are helping me get on top of things at home...so that is helping.  The more I think about it, the more I think that being overwhelmed is just a new chance to be overwhelmed by God's grace and provision rather than by my circumstances.  Hmmm.

And those wonderful inlaws of mine?  They brought super sweet, yummy, peaches.  Heaven with a pit.  Yummm.

And then yesterday I found out I won a blog giveaway to one of my favorite jewelry designers--Lisa Leonard!!  I couldn't be more excited.  Click over here and help me pick!

Happy Friday, bloggies!

  1. Girl, I live in a state of being overwhelmed far more than I should. And while I don't consider myself a perfectionist (that is my husband), I do expect more of myself than is really possible. I really do feel it is mostly a pride thing. I know it is wrong, but on those rare days I actually do complete all my to do's, I don't go around thanking God or my children for helping or whatever. NO, I pat myself on the back and say, "Wow! YOU did it!"

I know I would stop feeling so overwhelmed if I was still and listened to only what God wanted me to do. He will equip me for that much and then He gets the glory.

Hope your sweet girl adjusts and makes friends soon! Have a great weekend!

  2. I remember being a freshman. It takes awhile to get settled in. And as for a routine, I think I've stopped hoping for that. With 2 little ones, life is full of surprises. That's true of all stages of life I guess. How we react and respond makes the hugest difference of the outcome sometimes. Hope you have a restful weekend, and enjoy the peaches! My dad brought over some peaches yesterday too.

  3. I get overwhelmed a lot. A lot. I don't have any magical tips, but I'm trying a new thing. I am trying to focus more on my "to be" list than my "to do" list. I just wrote about it the other day on my blog. The "to be" list is full of things that God has called me to be like, patient in affliction, be ready to help those in trouble, etc. Somehow this helps me to put on His mentality instead of my own.

  4. Dawn. I am about to copy and paste your words into an email to myself, so I can remember them: "The more I think about it, the more I think that being overwhelmed is just a new chance to be overwhelmed by God's grace and provision rather than by my circumstances."

Those are words of wisdom--and ones that bear some reflection. Thank you!

  7. I commented on your post about being overwhelmed. I may just print that post and put in my notebook.

Those peaches look positively scrumptious, by the way.

  9. Yummmmmm..... That's exactly what I thought when I opened your page just now.

I don't even want to get started on being overwhelmed! I have found that the earlier I wake up, and the more genuine my quiet time in the Word (however brief) before the rest of the house gets up, the more ready I feel to face the overwhelming things. The hard days are the ones in which I start out "behind" and end up bringing yesterday's frustrations with me.

  10. Oh those peaches look wonderful. I hope the farmer's market has some tomorrow. Peaches are like tomatoes: they only taste good in season. I look forward to both every summer.

When I get overwhelmed, I try to remember to belly breathe. I inhale slowly and picture the breath going down to belly button then exhale slowly. It helps me calm down and think more clearly.

I'm visiting from Home Sanctuary. I hope you have a good weekend!

  11. Hi, Dawn! Nice to "see" you! ;0) What do I do when I get overwhelmed? I guess I prioritize and decide what I can let go of. I'm better at not overcommitting and that helps in not feeling overwhelmed as often. I pray alot. Ask God to help me lower my stress meter and help him decide what I can let go of. Boy, it's a moment-by-moment process sometimes!
